Home Theatre Audio and Speaker InformationTo experience the full enjoyment of your home theater system, you'll want to know a little about speakers. Understand that with a surround sound system, unless you have the six speakers required you won't get the full benefit. If you have a quality surround sound system you not only fill the room with sound, but you'll "feel" the action as well. Typically the six speakers are
placed this way: You can even calibrate this setup by "ear" or you can use a sound level meter. When you purchase your system be sure the package includes instructions and diagrams to help you get the most enjoyment from it. Tip: In reference to Home Theatre Speakers, size does not always mean better, but quality name brands do matter.
The Rear (or Surround) Speakers should be placed to the rear or side of your theater seating or "sofa," whatever the case may be. These speakers allow you to "feel" the action. The Subwoofer produces the low-frequency sounds, such as the spaceship flying across the screen as in "Red Planet" starring Val Kilmer. The subwoofer needs a lot of amplifier power to really "boom." A good amp will deliver about 100 watts to each of the left and right channels. The Left and Right Front Speakers, are also an important part of the package. If you purchase a surround sound amplifier and want to use your home stereo speakers make sure they can handle the wattage of the amp.
